SAFE ENCOUNTERS
Safe Encounters is our not-for-profit advocacy and training organization dedicated to improving communication between first responders, community partners, and individuals with autism and other disabilities.
Our mission is to:

What We Do
We provide simulation-based crisis interaction training—both virtual and in-person—that equips participants with practical, real-world tools.
Through immersive learning, participants learn to:

De-escalate situations using empathy and awareness

By 2022, over 250 first responders in Hamilton County, Ohio completed training

In an October 2024 incident, training directly contributed to a positive outcome
Real Impact Example:
During a police pursuit involving a young adult with autism, trained officers—scanned license plate, information from the Ohio Database for Communication Disabilities—revealed person had Autism, recognized behavioral indicators, exercised restraint, and chose education over arrest as a consequence. The situation was safely de-escalated.
